Itinerary - PRETORIA TO VICTORIA FALLS
Subject to change without
prior notification
- Follow in the footsteps of missionary-explorer, Dr David Livingstone, as you journey deep into African continent, in quest of the greatest curtain of falling water on earth – the Victoria Falls. Your journey begins in Pretoria – home of the Blue Train, and site of the historic presidential inauguration of South Africa’s best loved National hero, Nelson Mandela.
- Travel West to Mafikeng and across the border into Botswana before turning north through the capital, Gabarone, and onward over undulating expanses of thorn-bush and grass – the African plains, unchanged for millions of years – towards Zimbabwe.
- Stop in Bulawayo and visit the unique landscape of the Matopo National Park, site of the original Bulawayo – Royal Kraal of Lobengula, once King of the Matabele. Your journey now takes you northwest, via Hwange to Victoria Falls – romantically referred to as ‘the smoke that thunders’.
- One and a half times as wide and twice as high as the Niagara Falls, this magnificent, seasonal, waterfall carries 500 million litres of water a minute, when in full flood, creating a permanent rain forest and a cloud of spray that rises high into the sky. The original name: ‘Mosi oa Tunya’ means ‘The smoke that thunders’. ‘Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight’, wrote David Livingstone.
