With interiors created by a leading interior architectural design company, the Blue Train rivals many a five-star hotel in terms of grace, comfort and style. The suites have been superbly designed to offer discerning guests the best that modern technology and superior craftsmanship can provide. The accommodation cars are fitted with water cooled air-conditioning systems. Each suite has its own fresh air intake and individual coolant systems. The passages are provided with the same systems. Each suite and passage has temperature adjusters (between 18°C to 24°C) and air speed regulators. In winter all the systems are provided with heating cycles, not only from the air conditioning unit but also via under floor heating. Heating systems have been fitted to most of the bathrooms - these are fitted under the marble tiles. All accommodation aboard The Blue Train is en-suite, featuring either a private shower or bath. The second Blue Train has a third lounge, which can be used as observation car or be transposed from a lounge to a 22-seater conference facility with laptop computer, overhead projection, video and slide facilities. The ambiance of the Dining Car and Lounge Cars is one of warm elegance. Large windows allow for panoramic views of the passing countryside. Incandescent lighting gains added warmth from individual lamps on each table gently highlighting the beautifully detailed burled wood panelling and original South African artworks. All the public cars are fitted with gas filled air-conditioning systems. The temperature is centrally adjusted to a desired coolant temperature, between 18°C to 24°C. A sophisticated, opulent atmosphere, gourmet menu and the finest South African wines make dining on the Blue Train a magnificent experience. The Blue Train's Senior Brand Manager, in consultation with her own team of chefs, has created a menu to delight the most discerning palate. Only the freshest ingredients meet Blue Train standards. Meals and snacks are prepared by chefs in the streamlined kitchen, designed to the Blue Train engineers' exacting specifications. Guests are offered a choice of entrees, soup, fish, meat dishes, desserts, coffee and friandises, all beautifully presented. Typically South African fare includes Karoo lamb, kabeljou, Knysna oysters, snoek, crayfish and impala. Also offered is an abundant array of the finest South African fruit and vegetables. The Blue Train is a showcase for South African wines selected to compliment each course on the menu after meticulous consultation with top South African wine experts. On the Blue Train, dining never stops. Breakfast, lunch and supper are the main meals and High Tea is served each afternoon in the Lounge Car. Part of the High Tea fare includes cucumber sandwiches, dainty cakes, fresh scones and cream and other irresistible delicacies with an assortment of fine teas and coffees. The Blue Train is equipped with the finest bone china in white, cut-crystal and classic silver cutlery engraved with the familiar B insignia. Dew-fresh flowers add emphasis to the attention to detail. Menu cards are royal blue with a gold cord; a colour representation of the region through which guests are travelling is included for that extra Blue Train touch.
