he two Blue Trains have two lounges: the Lounge Car in which High Tea is served each afternoon and the Club Car, where guests can relax over a cognac. Another attraction of the opulent Lounge Car is the giant-size TV screen revealing the unfolding scenery from the front-of-train camera. The Club Car has a more masculine ambiance and finds favour with those seeking a peaceful place for after-dining cognacs, coffees or cigars. The Club Car is the only public car available to smokers.

The second Blue Train has a third lounge, which can be used as observation car or be transposed from a lounge to a 22-seater conference facility with laptop computer, overhead projection, video and slide facilities.

The ambiance of the Dining Car and Lounge Cars is one of warm elegance. Large windows allow for panoramic views of the passing countryside. Incandescent lighting gains added warmth from individual lamps on each table gently highlighting the beautifully detailed burled wood panelling and original South African artworks.

All the public cars are fitted with gas filled air-conditioning systems. The temperature is centrally adjusted to a desired coolant temperature, between 18°C to 24°C.

In winter all the systems are provided with heating cycles, not only from the air-conditioning unit but also via under floor heating. Heating systems have been fitted to most of the bathrooms - these are fitted under the marble tiles.
