- Moffat’s Mission
Many eminent people, such as David Livingstone setting off on his historic
journeys of exploration, used Moffat’s mission station as a base and there
are, in fact, the remains of the famous wild almond tree under which
Livingstone supposedly proposed to Mary Moffat. Moffat’s house has been
carefully restored, as have many of the other buildings. Built in 1831,
the original church – with its mud floors, great wooden beams and thatched
roof – is still in use. The manual printing press that printed the first
Tswana bible is also still clanking away.
