- Ikukhanya Kwelanga Village
Sandile Ndlovu, a traditional healer, runs this ‘village’ outside
Estcourt and has done much to promote and enhance the status of
traditional healers in Zululand. Together with a group of traditional
healers, Sandile – who is extremely knowledgeable about indigenous flora
– has planted a nursery growing medicinal plants that are fast becoming
difficult to find in the wild and visitors are welcome to tour the small
nursery with him. He also works with the youth in the area and has put
together a dance troupe to entertain his guests. There is also the
chance to visit a local tavern, milk a cow, meet other traditional
healers, meet the family, meet the neighbours (they may teach you a few
Zulu words) and, in fact, meet just about everyone else in the small
farming town of Estcourt. Sandile, it seems, knows everyone and
everything…
