Qwa Qwa

  • Basotho Cultural Village
This village is set in spectacular surroundings and it is ‘commercial’ – in the sense that many of the traditions are enacted for visitors and people do not live there permanently. The village depicts not only the culture and historical background of the Sotho nation from its inception, but also offers some insight into the contemporary lifestyles of modern Sotho people.

There are demonstrations on how huts are decorated, the making of clay pots, basket ware, the crushing of maize, food preparation and a taste of home-brewed beer.

Traditional games are played and visitors can take a two-hour hike with a ngaka (traditional doctor) who will explain where the medicinal plants are found and their customary uses. The hike also takes visitors past original San rock paintings.
