4. The Wild Coast

  • Isinamva Cultural Village
This is a real village – not one set up for tourists, but one where tourists can experience the authentic day-to-day lives of Xhosa people. On arrival, guests are greeted with the typical, rural Xhosa hospitality.
  • Early in the visit there is usually ‘story time’, the traditional means of educating young people. The people share their history – their origins, the forced removals from their original homes and the events that shaped their lives, both negatively and positively.

Guests take part in all the day-to-day running of the homestead: they are invited to cook with the women and to participate in the household chores. They milk cows, herd goats and during the planting season, help in the fields. Women and children fetch water from the springs.
