Experience the exhilaration of riding through the Mqatsheni and the Upper Umkomaas river valley, meandering your way along rocky ridges, through indigenous forest, mountain streams and Zulu kraals.
Ride in comfort in a McLellan saddle covered in
sheepskin. Trails are extremely safe and guided by an expert horseman who knows the area intimately. The terrain ranges from flat plains to deep valleys and mountain ridges.
Overnight Horse Trails
Overnight horse trails consist of a 4-5 hour horse ride each day, starting out from a farmhouse in the Vergelegen valley near Himeville and travelling through the mountains to an overnight base
camp.
The campsite here is rustic but comfortable. It is situated next to a mountain stream and is fully equipped with camping equipment, tents, hot/cold showers and
toilet.
All camping equipment is supplied – Globetrotter tents, mattresses, blankets, all meals (prepared on the trail by your guide) and beverages (except for alcoholic drinks). After a long day in the saddle, you can look forward to a hot shower at the camp.
All YOU need to bring is:
- Comfortable riding gear and clothing.
- Old worn-in jeans or stretch leggings (baggy pants or new jeans will cause chafing); shoes should be comfortable and have a distinct heel; gloves are recommended as well as a sun-hat or peak to protect you from burn.
- Additionally, you will require comfortable overnight clothing, sleepwear, a jacket for cold nights, a towel and swimming costume.
- Toiletries should include sunscreen and lip balm.
- Bring your own sleeping bag if you have one (otherwise we can provide).
Additional Facilities:
- Comfortable accommodation available on the day before and/or the day after your outride, either in a Guest House or in 2 traditional Zulu huts, at a surcharge of US$ 20 per person per night which includes Dinner, bed and cooked Breakfast. The Zulu huts are a very popular option, especially with our overseas guests.
