  • Each tour is preceded by a short briefing at the Centre for Dolphin Studies (CDS) Environmental Centre. Transport is available to transfer clients between the Centre and the launch site, if necessary.
  • The boat-based whale watching permit allows clients within touching distance of whales. Permits make the difference between watching whales from 300 meters (the legal limit for non-permitted operators) and hearing the whales breathe at 50 meters… It’s a whale of a difference!
  • All voyages are conducted according to the strictest safety standards; the vessel ‘Baleia’ is ‘state of the art’ and has been custom built for this purpose.
  • Skipper and an expert guide from the CDS, on board each trip. What you discover about whales, dolphins and seals during your trip, results from more than 20 years of experience.
  • Evening get-togethers can be arranged on request, including slide presentations and lectures involving all aspects of our marine environment given by marine biologists.
  • The CDS is a Trust, established to research and raise public awareness of Africa’s marine animals and coastal areas. The CDS has dedicated many years to the research, education, conservation and management of our fragile marine heritage, in South Africa as well as internationally.
  • Proceeds from each boat trip support the research, education and awareness goals of the CDS, in line with our motto, ‘OBSERVE AND CONSERVE’.
